At Love Child Organics it is important to us that we use our business as a platform for impacting children’s lives on a wider scale. For two years now, through our Spreading the Love Campaign, we have donated 1 cent for every product we’ve sold to First Book (USA) and First Book Canada. First Book is an incredible non-profit that provides high quality, brand new books for children in need, to help raise literacy rates and improve children’s long term outcomes. This month, through our Spreading the Love Campaign with First Book in the US, Love Child Organics was honored to donate book grants to these three different children’s organizations in the Los Angeles area:
First 5 LA
First 5 LA is a leading early childhood advocate working collaboratively across L.A. County. They were created in 1998 to invest L.A. County’s allocation of funds from California’s Proposition 10 tobacco tax. Since then, First 5 LA has invested more than $1.2 billion in efforts aimed at providing the best start for children from prenatal to age 5 and their families. Through the Best Start program, First 5 LA joins forces with communities to support children and families during their critical early years. The organization also supports various family literacy programs in the hope of ending low literacy levels and creating safe spaces for all children 0-5.
Hope Street Family Center
Hope Street Family Center is a community health, education and recreation resource of California Hospital Medical Center that seeks to educate children, strengthen families and transform the community. Hope Street Family Center provides in-home and on-site educational, health wellness, behavioral health, developmental, and social services that support children and families.
Their community outreach program includes Early Head Start, Los Angeles Universal Preschool, Crystal Stairs, and State subsidies. They also have a family literacy component within the Early Head Start preschool program.
Little Stars Preschool
Little Stars Preschool “offers a warm, safe, and diverse environment where children and their families can thrive.” Little Stars Preschool works in collaboration with a nearby Title I elementary school. The children attend the preschool program half day and then go to the local elementary school for an afternoon session. All of the children participate in a free food program as well. Little Stars serves a total of 24 children from low income families, and many of them are Spanish speakers.
By using our grants to purchase books through the First Book Marketplace, these organizations have been able to distribute high quality brand new books to the children they service in their programs. Many of the children received bilingual books which are typically expensive and harder to source, but are so important for the literacy development of children who don’t speak English as their first language. It’s always so special when we get to see photos like these of the children enjoying the books. The smiles and intense concentration say it all!
We are so proud to support First Book and all they do, and, we’d like to send out a big thank you to all the customers who purchases our products. Without you our Spreading the Love campaign with First Book wouldn’t be possible. So thank you!
