You’ve probably heard of the term “superfood” before. While there’s no official scientific definition for the word, it generally refers to foods that are packed full of nutrients, giving you the best bang for your bite.
Superfoods are both healthy and delicious – it goes without saying that we love to use them in all of our products. We’ve compiled a list of some of our top superfoods. Enjoy them on their own, in a tasty recipe or in your favourite Love Child Organics purees, Pat-A-Cakes, Toodle O’s and Chomps.

The Superfood: Kale
Why We Love It: This leafy green is high in beta carotene, vitamin K, vitamin C, and calcium – what’s not to love?
How to Use It: Turn your healthy smoothies green by adding some kale to the mix, or take your chili to the next level with a few handfuls of kale.
The Superfood: Blueberries
Why We Love It: Blueberries are packed with antioxidants and they’re the perfect finger food for little ones (don’t forget to cut large ones in half!) Plus, they taste delicious.
How to Use It: Homemade blueberry, watermelon, and avocado popsicles, anyone?
The Superfood: Beets
Why We Love It: Bright and earthy, beets are known for being a great source of both folic acid and potassium. They’re the perfect superfood for expecting mothers.
How to Use It: Your baby will adore this superfood puree – the beets provide the gorgeous colour and a ton of nutrients.
The Superfood: Acerola
Why We Love It: This red tropical berry is one of the best natural sources of vitamin C, a key ingredient to building a healthy immune system.

The Superfood: Apricot
Why We Love It: This summery fruit is all about the antioxidants. It’s a good source of beta carotene, which can help your eyesight and your heart health.
How to Use It: Roasted them in the oven and serve with some greek yogurt and cinnamon or add them to chicken stew. Yum! Our Fruity Chomps combine the powers of apricot, quinoa and amaranth.
The Superfood: Mango
Why We Love It: Who doesn’t love a ripe, juicy mango? We love mangoes because they’re high in carotenoids and can help support immune function, healthy cell development and eyesight – a triple threat!

The Superfood: Sweet Potato
Why We Love It: Sweet potatoes are known for being a rich source of beta carotene and for being full of potassium. Babies love sweet potatoes as much as we do, either pureed or simply as a finger food.
How to Use It: There are a million ways to use sweet potatoes, but one of our favourite recipes is this one for blueberry and sweet potato muffins – a powerful combo.
The Superfood: Amaranth
Why We Love It: This seed is tiny but mighty: not only is it a complete protein, but it’s high in fibre and a good source of iron.
How to Use It: Use amaranth as a base for a hearty salad or breakfast cereal. We include it in all of our Power Yo’rridge combinations.
The Superfood: Chia
Why We Love It: The calcium, fibre, and healthy fatty acids found inside chia seeds do wonders for brain development and digestion – music to our ears.

Why We Love It: Perhaps the most buzzed about superfood, quinoa is a complete protein that is high in fibre and totally gluten-free. Quinoa helps support growth and development.
